What You Need to Know About the Lockout

LIU Is Locking Faculty Out Effective Tomorrow 9/2/16 at Midnight
What you need to know:

The employer took this action, not the union.
We are not on strike. We are being locked out .
You will not have access to your office after midnight, tomorrow. Plan to get personal belongings, including computer files.
LIUFF continues to bargain in good faith. A bargaining session is on the calendar Thursday  of next week.
We are holding a membership meeting as planned on Tuesday, 9/6/16 at noon. The location will most likely be a Church in Fort Greene. This is being confirmed.
Plan to attend a protest rally in front of LIU on Flatbush Avenue at 10 AM on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7.
LIUFF is taking steps to contact the public, our sister unions at LIU, NYC elected officials, and the Press.

Under a lockout, legally:
1) You cannot be replaced by permanent replacement workers.
2) You can apply for unemployment. This will take several weeks to be approved. More information about this process will be provided.
3. We anticipate that LIU will take steps to cancel health care coverage. They will send out information about COBRA if they do in fact, cancel health care.

Stand strong. We will not be bullied or intimidated by acts of unprecedented aggression against our students and faculty
